Summer is here, it’s the time when you start doing the small maintenance jobs around the home from cleaning out the guttering and varnishing the wooden window frames to cutting the lawn and fixing or replacing your front entry door.

In some cases it’s a more affordable option to replace your front door rather than repair it, if you have a wooden door chances are that it’s starting to wear, it may even be warped and need a lot of work done to get it back to its former glory.

Choosing a new entry door is easier than you think if you take a little bit of time to look at what is available and what will look great and make a good first impression to visitors arriving at your door.

Style of Your Home

It’s very important to consider the style of your home before going out and buying a new front door, modern homes will not look right with a cottage style door and a cottage will just look wrong with a modern door.

Keeping the style the same throughout the home is important; this will appeal to prospective buyers later on should you ever decide to sell.

Door Designs

Have you looked for front doors before? There are so many different designs available. Choosing one can be a difficult task. I always suggest taking a photograph of the front of your house and then compare the doors available to the front of the property, you can do this using a computer program such as Photoshop or you can print out your photograph and door choices and hold them against each other to get a good idea of what your home will look like.

Colour

The colour you choose for your home can make a huge impact on visitors. I always find that matching your front door to your window frames and garage door works a treat, keeping everything uniform. You will find that some homes benefit from a bright and bold entry door, darker colours work well when the outside of the property is painted in a grey colour while white works on homes with lighter colours. Interestingly red doors look fantastic on brick homes.

Durability

When you buy an entry door you want to know you are spending money once and it will cover you for years to come. You can buy cheap doors, there are plenty of them out there, but how many times are you going to have to replace the door in the next ten years? Spending a little more money can go a long way when looking for the ideal entry door for your home.

Take your time, look at the entrance doors available, visit websites such as www.hormann.co.uk/ and see what is available before making a final decision.
